HISTORIC! COMMEY AND MARFO PROPEL GHANA TO FIRST EVER WORLD TABLE TENNIS SEMI-FINALS

Ghana’s doubles stars, Emmanuel Commey and James Marfo, have against all odds, secured their place in the semi-finals of the men’s doubles event at the ongoing WTT Contender Lagos 2025.

Earlier, the duo delivered an impressive performance in the Round of 16, defeating the Nigerian pair of Usman Ayoola and Yaya Azeez, 3–1. Their impressive run of form continued in the quarter-final as they took down the pair Mathew Kuti and Muizz Adegoke in a thrilling encounter, setting yet another record as the only Ghanaian doubles pair to make it to the semi-final. Commey and Marfo’s cohesive gameplay, strong court chemistry, and mental toughness were key factors in their decisive victory.

Coached by Cynthia Kwabi, the Ghanaian pair maintained composure under pressure and executed their game plan to perfection. Their win reflects not only talent but also effective preparation and teamwork, a combination that now propels them into the tournament’s last four.

Playing in the high-stakes atmosphere at the Sir Molade Okoya Thomas Indoor Sports Hall, the two have captured the attention of both local fans and international table tennis observers alike.

An overwhelmed Emmanuel Commey could not hide his excitement after the match.

“This is a massive victory not just for ourselves as players but Ghana as a whole. We are looking to take things step by step and reach the final.”(Emmanuel Commey)

I want to say a big thank you to my Immigration Unit, Enchi Command, for the constant support.“ (Emmanuel Commey)
